WiFCERM corporate affiliate membership is free and open to all organisations who work in, or support, the FCERM sector, who want to become recognised partners in contributing to gender equality across the FCERM sector. This month we’re shining a spotlight with affiliate member The Flood Forecasting Centre.
“ The Flood Forecasting Centre (FFC) is a long-term strategic partnership between the Environment Agency and the Met Office. Supporting national flood resilience in a changing climate, the FFC brings together the meteorological expertise of the Met Office and the hydrological expertise of the Environment Agency. A team of specialist hydrometeorologists work 24/7 to provide flood guidance to the Category 1 and 2 emergency response community in England and Wales.
We’re actively working on Strategic Workforce Planning and EDI and joined WiFCERM as an affiliate member to help support this area. A member of our team had a great experience on the WiFCERM mentoring programme last year and we’re keen to support the group further. The affiliate membership offers us great networking opportunities where we hope to gain insights from other organisations to support our current team, and feed into our workforce planning. Around 2/3 of our centre work operational shifts on a 24/7 roster, which brings its own challenges and plenty of considerations from an EDI perspective. Completing the baseline survey was eye-opening and we’re keen to explore the results further and find tangible ways to support people through their careers.”
