Volunteer with WiFCERM

We’re recruiting!

Some of the WiFCERM Committee at Flood & Coast

The role

Women in FCERM is a growing network that champions gender equality, visibility, and professional development across Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM). As the group enters its next strategic period, we are seeking volunteers to provide ongoing support to help strengthen our impact, sustainability, and governance.

These volunteer roles will contribute to the delivery of Women in FCERM’s strategic objectives, supporting the evolution of the group as it develops more formal governance structures, clearer ways of working, and long‑term capacity – growing its reach and impact across the sector. Volunteers will work collaboratively within delivery sub-groups to support planning, coordination, and decision‑making.

This is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in shaping the future direction of Women in FCERM while contributing to positive cultural change across the sector.

WiFCERM Sub-Groups

There are several different sub-groups you can get involved in.

Events and Awards: Plan, design and deliver an inclusive calendar of networking and learning events and the annual WiFCERM Awards, showcasing role models and advancing WiFCERM’s visibility, career development and sector impact.

Communications and Engagement: Grow WiFCERM’s reach and reputation; deliver evidence led campaigns and member engagement, including schools/higher education outreach and Allies communications.

Benchmarking and data: Build and steward the FCERM evidence base (representation, recruitment/promotion, workplace experience incl. PPE and policies, entry/exit barriers), turning insights into practical guidance and tracking progress against the 5year Strategy.

Mentoring: Design, deliver and improve the WiFCERM Mentoring Programme, expanding reach and L&D content, and capturing outcomes to support inclusive leadership and career development.

Corporate Affiliate Membership: Grow and steward WiFCERM’s Corporate Affiliate community, turning commitments into measurable action on leadership, recruitment/promotion and inclusive workplaces; host workshops, support skills linkups, sharing experiences and building networks between members.

Commitment

This is a continuous volunteer role that involves regular engagement throughout the year. It is not suited to those seeking one-off or event-based volunteering. Opportunities for ad hoc support may be advertised in the future. While the time commitment may vary across each sub-group and time of the year (there may be peaks of activity in specific periods), we expect the average commitment to average 0.5-1 days per month. In addition, Sub-Group leads will be expected to attend quarterly Board Meetings (up to 2 hours).

Renumeration

Unremunerated. Please note this includes travel and subsistence costs at events such as the annual Flood and Coast Conference.
